EVENT: Knitted and Beaded Wire – unique

Suraya Hossain
FULLY BOOKED but space for 1 day guest (not staying at TKH) - please note day guests do not miss out on the fun. Most DGs book a bed (just board) at the B&B across the road; they are still part of the magic, they just don't sleep here.
Learn to knit with fine wire and crystal beads. The workshop will provide you with the opportunity to learn the basics in wire knitting, introducing the materials and tools used, and an understanding of how designs can be created. You will be given all the materials to make a framed knitted wire art piece. Working from a grid pattern chart, you will see how easy it is to incorporate beads into your wire knitting. Your knitted piece will then be placed in a frame, ready to hang. Design ideas will also be explored, demonstrating how wire can be knitted and crocheted to produce interesting, wearable and decorative pieces.
Level of experience: Intermediate/Experienced knitter.
Your Gift Bag will include materials provided by Suraya; kit to make the finished framed piece and sewing needle/tape + one set of 2.25mm knitting needles (these will be provided but with option to purchase) - or please bring your own. A real knitted Moebius is a thing of great beauty and one of the most satisfying things to knit. Once the Moebius cast on is learned, the rest is simply knitting or purling in the round.
On this course, I will teach you:
The true Moebius cast on. How to work the Moebius from cast on, to completion. How to create a simple but lovely Moebius shoulder Cowl. How to make many variations of a Moebius in the future. To take part you really only need basic knitting skills – to be able to cast on, off, knit, and purl. These are the only skills that you will use to knit the basic Moebius I am teaching you. You also need a sense of adventure, lovely, open mind, and to be prepared to feel amazing when you add this skill to your repertoire.
You will need: A 5mm circular needle that is 150cm long, measured from tip-to-tip. I recommend fixed cable circulars for Moebius knitting but interchangeables are also fine. A stitch marker. 2 x 50g balls of any DK yarn – plain, variegated, or mix up your shades. 1 x 25g ball of Rowan Kidsilk Haze (or similar silk/mohair yarn) – optional, one of the pattern variations has Kidsilk Haze stripes and a Kidsilk Haze ruffle at the edge.

EVENT: WET FELTING Design Workshop
Friday and Saturday workshop host:
Lydia Tapley
AVAILABLE: SSK - space for one more - happy for one person to have his twin room for the price of single occupancy.
Nuno Wrap on silk chiffon or cotton or Cobweb Wrap. All materials will be provided, you can choose embellishment shapes and fibre colours nearer the time. You will need to bring 2 m length of silk, silk chiffon or cotton (patterned or plain) as the base of your wrap.
Nuno felting is a technique in which a sheer fabric (such as silk gauge or cotton muslin) is incorporated or bonded into wool fibres, creating a lightweight felt. Fibres can completely cover the background fabric or can be used to create designs allowing the background fabric to dominate.
Cobweb felt is a technique in which wool fibres are laid out with 'naturally occurring holes' - this technique can also incorporate silks, novelty yarns and locks, but these must be trapped down by a light layer of fibres.

Colour is very important to me and my design process often begins with a search for an intriguing stitch that will inspire creative juices to flow or a decorative detail that will add a stylish, contemporary edge. I’ve worked as a freelance textile designer and tutor teaching both machine and hand knitting and as 'an accessories obsessive' have written 4 books on hand knitting. I’ve been very lucky to work with some of the best hand knitting brands in the UK and my designs have featured in several UK knitting magazines including Knitting Magazine where I am a regular contributor responsible for the ‘Ask Jeanette’ letters page, Yarn Reviews and A-Z of Techniques.
Jeanette is championing diversity and representation. She is actively bringing these vital and essential conversations to our attention.
She writes: […] there are those who will say that conversations like this are unnecessary and that bringing race or skin colour into knitting and craft is being divisive or perhaps even ‘political correctness gone mad’. To those people I would ask them to imagine not seeing themselves represented on the pages of the magazines and publications they read and thinking how that would make them feel. Unwelcome? Invisible? In some way ‘less than’?….
We are thrilled to be welcoming Jeanette to TKH.
